1. What is IAAC?

The International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition (IAAC) is a global online competition for students. It tests knowledge of stars, planets, galaxies, orbits, spectra, and cosmology through creative problem-solving and real-world research.

Vision: Educating and Encouraging Students for Science and Astronomy.

2. Who Can Participate?

📚 Current high school and university students from all countries are eligible.

Three age groups (based on grade/age on 17 April 2026):
Junior: 10th grade and below (and under 16 years)
Youth: 11th to 13th grade (and under 19 years)
Senior: 1st year college/university and higher (or 19 years and above)

Note: Your age/grade on the submission deadline determines your group for the entire competition.

3. Competition Structure

🔵 1. Qualification Round (FREE)
• 5 problems: Knowledge, Calculation, Research
• Each problem gives 5 points
• Everyone receives a participation certificate
• Qualifying scores for Pre-Final Round: 15 (Junior) / 17 (Youth) / 20 (Senior) points
• Submission deadline: 17 April 2026
🟠 2. Pre-Final Round
• 60-minute supervised exam with 3 problems (1 Basic, 1 Advanced, 1 Research)
• Research paper released 29 May 2026
• Exam window: 31 May – 2 June 2026
• Registration required (13 EUR – financial aid available)
• Registration deadline: 26 May 2026
🔴 3. Final Round
• Online exam with ~30 questions (short answer & multiple choice)
• Takes about 30 minutes
• Digitally supervised (can be taken from home)

2 Solve the 5 Problems
Handwrite or type your answers clearly. Typed solutions (e.g., using TeX) receive a special honour on your certificate.
3 Create a PDF File

❌ NOT allowed: DOC, DOCX, ZIP

Multiple photos? Use "Google Drive" (Scan feature) or "Microsoft Lens" app

▶ Is the Qualification Round really free?
Yes. The Qualification Round is completely free. Everyone who submits correctly receives a certificate. The Pre-Final Round costs 13 EUR, but financial aid is available for those who need it.
▶ Do I get a certificate even if I don't qualify for the next round?
Yes. All participants in the Qualification Round receive an official participation certificate regardless of their score. Finalists receive Bronze, Silver, or Gold Honours. Prize winners receive special certificates.
▶ Will I receive a hard copy of my certificate?
Hard copies are sent only to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Prize winners. All other participants receive a digital (soft copy) certificate with a permanent verification ID at https://iaac.space/verify
